Do you still have your Digimon cards from childhood? They haven’t quite hit the high value that some Pokémon cards sell for, but many Digimon cards are worth big bucks today. However, many are not. It’s important to know which cards belong to which set, and which are worth keeping or potentially selling.
Collectors often aim to acquire complete sets to showcase the entire range of cards available in a series or expansion. A full set is more appealing to collectors because it provides a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in owning every card.
Digi Battle Cards
The Digi Battle card game was released in February 2000, as a starter deck containing 62 cards. As the year went on, more starter decks were released but so were booster packs with cards to add to your custom decks.
These were the cards that actually had a game to play, so if you remember playing a trading card game on the playground, these were the ones.
Each card will have an identification number on it. If it starts with ‘ST’ then it belongs to a starter deck, but if it starts with ‘Bo’, then it belongs to a booster set. Others like Fx, Dw, and Mo, are all a type of promotional cards.
How much is a complete set of Digi Battle cards worth?
Well, since the starter decks came as an already completed set, they don’t sell for a lot these days. Actually, most kids kept them together so is easy to find the full set.
However, the expansions are worth something. The original Digi Battle cards ran from Series 1 through Series 6, and as you can imagine, Series 1 is what most people are looking for.
A complete set of the Digi Battle Series 1 cards is selling in the $150-$200 USD range on eBay. Check the search results to see for yourself.
Animated Series Cards
There was another set of Digimon cards in production at the same time, called the Animated Series Trading Cards. These cards are quite a bit different. They have squared-off corners and don’t have a card game to play, they are just for collecting.
Instead of 1st edition, the initial print of these cards had a big silver “EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW” stamp. Depending on where you lived or what your friend was collecting, you may have collected these cards instead.
The rarity system is a little different with these cards, but the 8 Ultimate Digimon are the rare ones. The Ultimate Digimon have special holo designs and are hard to pull from the booster packs.
The most expensive Animated Series cards are serialized ones. This means that the card has a serial number printed on it. For example, an Augumon card might have the serial number 025/100.
Serialized cards are extremely rare, and as a result, extremely expensive. In the next section, we’re not taking these serialized cards into consideration on the complete set value.

A quick search on eBay shows that the complete set of non-holo cards from Series 1 can be bought for as low as $20. But the full set is a different story. All 34 cards, including the Ultimate Digimon, can sell for the $150-$200 USD range.
Recently, a complete set of Series 1 and 2, sold for $290 USD.
Conclusion
$150 USD is a pretty solid chunk of change, but it may be worth it to you to keep the cards for now. Old trading cards like these appreciate in value due to the laws of supply and demand. Keeping your card for a few more years could prove to be a smart investment.
