Rise of the Floodborn: Lorcana TCG Set Summary

It’s fair to say that Disney’s Lorcana trading card game has made a huge impact in the trading card community already this year. With an immense First Chapter and intriguing collectables for dedicated fans, this beautiful TCG is one to watch for investors and players alike.

The second set for Lorcana is already on the way, and from what we’ve seen already, it looks fantastic so far. There’s been a lot of coverage showing various card releases, release dates, and more important information, so to help you stay up to date, we’ve compiled it all into one summary post here.

Here’s everything you need to know about Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn right now.

It’s Coming Out This Year

We’ve already briefly covered this set release, back when it was just referred to as the ‘Second Chapter’ of Lorcana and we hadn’t seen the name or theme yet.

You can expect to see Rise of the Floodborn products and cards hitting the shelves in local stores and hobby shops on the 17th of November this year in most locations. Following quickly after this, the wider, mass retail release will take place on the 1st of December.

It’ll be interesting to see whether there’s any price gouging this time (a problem that Pokémon appears to be having with the TCG Classic set already) and how the fans react to the split-launch model. The idea of focusing on smaller stores and independent retailers is great, and hopefully it will benefit them during the holiday season.

There Are Plenty Of Cards

Much like the First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn is going to be a big release.

The set number of cards is currently believed to be 204. It’s likely we’ll be seeing more Enchanted cards in this release, too, meaning that the number is probably going to be much higher than 204. There’s a lot to look forward to and collect, and the artwork that’s been shown off so far is very impressive.

Lorcana RotF Card Previews

The cards that have been released (or leaked) so far look brilliant in terms of competitive potential, too. The cards that you can expect to see include:

  • Belle (Hidden Archer)
  • Cinderella (Stouthearted)
  • Dinner Bell
  • Elsa (Gloves Off)
  • Gaston (Intellectual Powerhouse)
  • Merlin (Shapeshifter)
  • Mickey Mouse (Friendly Face)
  • Raya (Warrior of Kumandra)
  • The Sorcerer’s Spellbook
  • The Queen (Commanding Presence)
  • Tiana (Celebrating Princess)
  • Winnie the Pooh (Honey Wizard)
  • Zero to Hero

If you’ve been keeping up with current Lorcana releases, you may be aware that some of these cards will also feature in the Disney100 set.

There are some other cards which have not been officially announced or released yet. The vast majority of these come from product photos and sneak previews, but some come from artist Instagram accounts as well. They include characters such as Kronk, the Seven Dwarves, Shere Khan, the Beast, the Queen of Hearts, and Mulan.

Rise of the Floodborn Introduces A New Ability

There don’t appear to be many new mechanics or features coming in this set (like a new Ink type, for example) but there is a new ability called Resist.

The new ability Resist means that damage (from any source) to the character with the ability is reduced by 2. Examples of cards with this ability are Cinderella (Stouthearted) and Tiana (Celebrating Princess) and it looks like it could be quite powerful in competitive play.

The Product List Is Pretty Standard

The product list that’s been revealed so far for Rise of the Floodborn looks almost identical to the First Chapter product list.

It’s possible that we could see more niche or expensive items closer to the time, though, as the set is releasing during the start of the season that’s quite holiday-oriented for a lot of people and it would make sense to add some extra giftable items.

The products that will be dropping for Rise of the Floodborn include:

  • Booster Packs
  • Booster Boxes
  • Card Sleeves
  • Deck Boxes
  • Disney100 Collector’s Set
  • Illumineer’s Trove
  • Playmats
  • Starter Decks

All in all, the Rise of the Floodborn set looks like it’ll be a magical experience for Disney fans and TCG collectors alike. The cards that have been revealed so far look beautiful, and there’s the potential for some truly interesting Enchanted cards as well.

The official Lorcana site has a landing page specifically dedicated to Rise of the Floodborn up already, so you can check out the products and prices in more depth if you’d like. Some stores may have pre-orders open already, so check your favorite TCG websites too.
