It’s been a fantastic year to be a fan of Pokémon cards so far. We’ve had a packed release schedule in 2023, with plenty of new cards, styles, and visual nods to older sets.
The 151 set is just around the corner and Obsidian Flames is on the horizon- but if you’re wondering what’s next, it’s the Ruler of the Black Flame. The Ruler of the Black Flame set is linked very closely to Obsidian Flames, and it’s looking incredible so far.
Wondering whether there are Tera types in Pokémon TCG Ruler of the Black Flame? Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming set, including information on when the set comes out in Japan and everywhere else, what you can expect, and notes on Tera cards, too.
There Are Tera Cards in the Set
One of the most important things to note about the Ruler of the Black Flame is that it’s going to introduce Tera cards featuring Pokémon with Tera types that are different to their regular types.
For example, a Dark-type Tera Charizard EX card has been announced and it’s one of the most anxiously awaited cards in the set. It’s likely to be one of the most expensive Charizard cards for investors and collectors to date.
Fans are already in love with the design, and the unique Tera type means that it’s sure to be viable in competitive play. This is no surprise, as both Ruler of the Black Flame and Obsidian Flames are very Charizard-centric.
Other Tera cards that have been announced include a Fire-type Tera Eiscue EX and an Electric-type Tera Tyranitar EX.
International Release is in August
As with the vast majority of other Pokémon TCG releases, this set will be coming out in Japan first. The Japanese release date is just around the corner, being announced as July 28th 2023.
The international release date for Rule of the Black Flame is August 11th 2023. It’s going to be really exciting seeing the rest of the card reveals and announcements before that date, so make sure you’re following the official Pokémon TCG accounts on social media if you’re not already.
There’s Plenty of Iconic Cards
This set is looking brilliant so far. It’s got a great mix of fan favorite and unusual cards, with some interesting reveals for trainer cards including Geeta, Poppy, and Ortega.
The inclusion of Lycanroc’s Midnight Form is a great choice. This particular design went down well with fans initially, so keeping it fresh in people’s minds is a solid pick from the design team.
There are also other iconic EX cards like Vespiqueen, Absol, and Glimmora. Even Pidgeot is being featured on an EX card, which is fun. It’ll be interesting to see which Tera types these cards are associated with and how they hold up in battles.
