What We Know About Magic: The Gathering Bloomburrow

Bloomburrow Mouse Fighting Wolf Magic The Gathering Official Artwork

Excited for the next year of Magic: The Gathering releases? You should be. The iconic game has a mountain of incredible releases on the cards for the coming year, ranging from gritty Western themed sets to murder mysteries.

One of the most exciting sets that we can expect to see from Magic this year, though, is Bloomburrow. This particular release is set to be incredibly whimsical and charming, and it looks very different from what MTG fans might expect from a typical launch.

Here’s everything we know about Magic: The Gathering Bloomburrow so far, including the general theming and the release period as well.

The Set Will Come Out In the Third Quarter This Year

Firstly, there has not been an exact release date announced for Bloomburrow yet.

It will be coming out in the third quarter of this year, though. If you’re unfamiliar, the third quarter can typically be taken to mean July, August, and September.

Based on what we already know about the Magic: The Gathering release schedule and the other sets that are dropping this year, it’s likely that we will see Bloomburrow coming out in late August or early September. This is just speculation on our part, of course, but it’s a likely slot in the yearly schedule for a set like this.

Bloomburrow will be the third premier Magic set of 2024 and it’s looking like it’ll be a good one. At the time of writing, pre-orders are not yet available for this set and it’s unlikely that we’ll see them any time soon. Based on previous releases, we should start to see pre-orders and official card reveals around June or July.

The Theming Looks Incredibly Unique

Out of all the Magic sets that we’ve seen in recent years (and the ones that are yet to be launched in 2024) Bloomburrow is looking like a breath of fresh air for the scene.

If you’ve not seen anything about this set yet, it will heavily feature talking forest animals and critters like mice, foxes, and rabbits. The world seems cute and whimsical, with an almost cottagecore feel to it. These talking animals will be some of the only inhabitants of this specific plane- there appear to be no humans or humanoids.

Don’t expect it to be all sunshine and rainbows, though. There’ll be plenty of chaos and terror amongst all the cuteness, as represented in the official artwork by the necromancers and ferocious wolves.

It’ll be incredibly exciting to see what the cards look like for Bloomburrow. As soon as we can get our hands on some, we’ll be sure to keep you guys in the loop with an unboxing or a preview on our official social media pages.

Bloomburrow Will Change the Competitive MTG Scene

Finally, it’s important to note that Bloomburrow will bring some significant changes that competitive Magic: The Gathering players will want to be mindful of.

Based on the new and extended Standard rotation in MTG, Bloomburrow will be kicking a few sets out of the competitive rotation. While this may be frustrating for some players, it is great to see that the MTG team is keeping an eye on the competitive scene and trying to keep things as fresh as possible for fans.

Seeing how the competitive community – as well as the collector’s community – responds to Bloomburrow will be very interesting. Bloomburrow’s official card list isn’t available yet (and it won’t be for a long while) but it already feels very different to the usual Magic fare. This could be one of the best card game releases of 2024.
