MTG Tomb Raider Secret Lair Drop: A Summary

Magic The Gathering Tomb Raider Secret Lair Card Previews

The hits just keep on coming for Magic: The Gathering fans this year.

We put out a piece recently with all the supposed MTG releases left for 2023, but apparently, this simply wasn’t enough. A brand new Secret Lair drop came out recently, and it’s been going down a treat so far with fans.

Featuring the iconic Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider franchise, the Tomb Raider Secret Lair drop came out this month and it’s absolutely worth checking out if you haven’t already. Here’s a summary of the drop, including a full card list and product list.

There Are Eight Cards To Pick Up

The Tomb Raider Secret Lair collection dropped on the 20th of November and it’s been incredibly popular with fans so far. This collection offers a mix of interesting reprints and brand new cards, and it’s a worthwhile pick-up for both collectors and competitive players.

The cards that you can find in the collection include:

  • Lara Croft, Tomb Raider. This unique card is a Legendary Creature, placing Lara Croft as a Human Ranger.
  • Heart of the Explorer, Search For Azcanta. This is a powerful Legendary Enchantment.
  • The Lost Valley – Azcanta, The Sunken Ruin. This is a Legendary Land card.
  • The Grim Whisper, Bow of Nylea. This is a Legendary Enchantment Artifact which applies Deathtouch to attacking Creatures that you control.
  • Storms Of Yamatai, Anger of the Gods. Storms of Yamatai is a Sorcery card with a particularly striking visual design.
  • Totec’s Spear, Shadowspear. This is a Legendary Artifact of the Equipment variety that features Trample and Lifelink mechanics.
  • Kitezh, Sunken City – Academy Ruins. This is a Legendary Land card.
  • Treasure. This is an exclusive Token Artifact card that’s particularly useful for mana management.

While this may seem like a collection that’s geared towards collectors more, it’s important to note that the Lara Croft card is mechanically unique and that the Treasure Token Artifact card is an exclusive, too. There’s a lot of potential for creative plays here. =

The value for collectors is hard to miss, though. The artwork shown off in these cards is stunning, with designs that pay homage to the original roots of Tomb Raider. The new Lara Croft, Tomb Raider card is particularly interesting and fits the set theme perfectly.

Both Foil and Non Foil Collections Are Available

It’s possible to buy both the Foil collection and the Non Foil collection via the Secret Lair website. As you might expect, the Non Foil collection is significantly cheaper, so it’s worth getting this if you’re more interested in playing with the cards than just collecting them.

The Foil collection is gorgeous, though.

This collection just came out (on the 20th of November) and shipping dates will vary based on region, with a shipping date of the 6th of December for American fans and the 26th of January next year for UK fans. It’s also only available for a limited time, so make sure to check it out if you haven’t already.

Next year is looking like an incredibly busy one for MTG fans already, with exciting sets like Murders At Karlov Manor already on the horizon.
