Are you a fan of playing Lorcana? If so, you’re going to be delighted by the latest series of announcements from the Disney and Ravensburger teams.
While the emerging competitive circuit for Lorcana has been heavily discussed in the community already, there haven’t been many official announcements about it- until now. The official Lorcana competitive circuit system has been announced, and there’s even a kick-off date for the exclusive, invite-only World Championship.
Here’s everything we know about the Lorcana TCG World Championships, along with information about the 2024 Lorcana release schedule.
The Competitive Scene Will Kick Off In May
It’s not just a single World Championship that Disney has announced for Lorcana- it’s a complete competitive circuit which will be kicking off in May this year.
Known as The Disney Lorcana Challenge, the competitive circuit will be opening with regional qualifiers in Europe and the US. Other locations have not been confirmed yet, although it’s likely we could see more locations added to the list down the line.
The regional qualifiers, called Challenge Events, will be taking place at local game stores, hobby shops, and other approved locations.
Once a player ends up in a top four spot at a qualifying Challenge Event, they will be invited to either the North American Championship or the European Championship depending on their location. These Championships should take place in the fourth quarter of 2024, meaning we’ll see them in October, November, or December.
The top players at the North American Championship and European Championship will then be invited to an exclusive World Championship event so that they can prove their strength on the biggest stage of them all.
Currently, the location, date, and setting of the World Championship is not known. There should be another official announcement from the Lorcana team in March this year about the competitive circuit- including when the World Championship will be and where it will be held, how people can apply for Challenge Events, and the match formats.
It’s incredibly exciting to see such a solid competitive circuit forming in the Lorcana space. The game naturally lends itself to competitive play, and the community has already been hosting some incredible events over the past few months where players have been showing off their skills and deck-building skills.
There should also be some less intense competitive events starting in April, too, called Set Championships. There’ll be one based around each Disney Lorcana set – for example, there’ll be an Into The Inklands Set Championship – and they look like a lot of fun. Set Championships will offer unique cards as rewards, so they’re worth checking out if you’re a collector.
2024 Has An Active Lorcana Release Schedule
Speaking of Lorcana sets, the release schedule for 2024 has been announced – although the information about later sets is somewhat limited.
The release schedule that fans can expect to see in 2024 is as follows:
- Into The Inklands (Set Three) in most locations on the 23rd of February, with a mass retail release on the 8th of March.
- Set Four on the 17th of May on a local store level, with mass retail release taking place on the 31st of May.
- Set Five on the 9th of August at local hobby stores, with massive retailers releasing products on the 23rd of August.
- Set Six on the 15th of November on a local level, with mass retailers getting the products out on the 24th of November.
As you can see, we only know the name and set theme for Into The Inklands. Everything else is a mystery for now- but we’ll be sure to keep you posted as soon as we learn more about these upcoming Lorcana releases.
It’s certainly looking like it’ll be a big year for Lorcana fans. Whether you’re interested in playing on a competitive scale, hanging out with friends in the community, or getting your hands on some rare cards, make sure to get out there and support your local events as much as possible.
