We’ve already spoken about how Lorcana is disrupting the trading card scene and it’s not even been a week since the first phase of its launch. Coming out in most locations on August 18th for hobby shops and local stores, this Disney-led trading card game has impressed TCG fans so far with its colorful cards, familiar characters, and unique style of play.
There’s another launch date coming up for Lorcana shortly, where the cards and other products will be hitting the shelves of bigger retailers and major stores. To help you keep up to date with where Lorcana is at right now, we’ve compiled all of the launch information, product summaries, and tips on how to get the most out of your Lorcana experience.
Here’s everything you need to know about Lorcana right now.
The Next Major Launch is in September
The decision to split the Lorcana launch between hobby stores and major retailers is one that went down well with the majority of fans- although, it had understandably put a lot of pressure on smaller retailers as well.
If you don’t have any hobby shops near you or you’d prefer to buy from your favorite large retailer, don’t worry. The next Lorcana launch date is just around the corner. Lorcana cards and collectibles will be widely available in most locations on the 1st of September at all major retailers that usually stock trading cards and collectibles.
Some places are doing pre-orders already, so if you have a store in mind then make sure to check out their social media pages or online store to see if there are any good deals.
There Are Lots of Product Types on Offer
It’s already been confirmed that there will be another Lorcana launch in November this year, which is impressive considering the vast variety of products that are already on offer with this initial First Chapter launch.
In fact, a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times shows that there is a 10 year plan for Lorcana right now. It’s clear that a lot of love went into this product, and it’s being made with longevity in mind which is good news for fans.
Currently, the Lorcana product roster includes:
- 3 starter decks. Each one features 2 Ink types per deck. Each starter deck features a 60-card deck with 2 foils of the package art characters, 11 game tokens, a rule book, and a 12-card booster pack.
- Booster packs. These feature 12 randomly selected cards. These packs always include a random rarity foil card, 2 rare/super rare/legendary cards, 3 uncommon cards, and 6 common cards as well.
- A gift set. The first gift set for Disney Lorcana features Mulan and Hades, and includes 2 oversized foils, 2 playable foil cards, 34 game tokens, and 4 booster packs.
- The Illumineer’s Trove. This is a collector’s item and it offers a lot of value. It features a player guide and a storage box, 2 deck boxes, 8 booster packs, and 15 game tokens.
- Collector’s accessories. Standard TCG fare is available, including card sleeves and portfolios, deck boxes, and playmats.
It’s important to bear in mind that this is just the first launch for Lorcana. It’s likely we’ll see more collections and products, and possibly seasonal items, too. It’s common for trading card games to offer holiday themed items too, like Pokémon with its Halloween and Christmas items.
It’s Important to Shop Around Online
Lorcana cards are, understandably, selling incredibly quickly right now. Some local stores (not all of them) are selling them for far more than they should be and some rare cards are going for upwards of $500 USD online right now, thanks to launches at events like GenCon 2023.
It’s important to shop around and look for good prices if you’re a Lorcana fan. As mentioned earlier, some larger stores may be doing pre-orders and bonuses right now so if you can wait for the next launch, you could save some money or get some extra goodies in the process.
The rarer cards are likely to stay at quite a high price point, though, at least until the next set of cards is launched later in the year.
