Over the years eBay has been fostering the trading card community by offering us a safe place to buy and sell cards. From the purchase of PayPal, eBay has grown into one of the most trusted secondary card markets online. Recently, they’ve decided to update the way we list trading cards.
eBay even recently announced their new trading card vault, which just goes to show you how serious they are about the industry.
Changing the way we list condition
In the past, when listing a card you would choose the typical condition such as ‘Used’ or ‘Like New’. However, this isn’t typical for trading cards.
As of July 2023, we can now choose ‘Graded’ or ‘Ungraded’.
If you choose graded, you’ll then be able to choose the relevant grader and also the numerical grade. This is big news because it allows us to filter down our search to the exact slab. For example, you can narrow down the results to a PSA 7.
If you choose ungraded, you can now select the condition on a relevant scale specifically for trading cards. No more of that ‘Like New’ nonsense! We can now select the following condition descriptor:
- Near Mint or Better: Comparable to a fresh pack.
- Excellent: Has clearly visible signs of wear.
- Very Good: Has moderate-to-heavy damage all over.
- Poor: Is extremely worn and has flaws all over.
They even have a page you can now visit that carefully outlines their condition guidelines. This helps a lot if the two parties disagree after a sale. These guidelines can now be referenced and clear lines can be determined regarding condition.
