Is the Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway Set Worth It?

There have been a lot of announcements from the Lorcana team so far in 2024. The World Championships and competitive circuit have been confirmed, Into the Inklands has been announced as the third expansion set, and there’s even an official Lorcana release schedule on table for the rest of the year. 

Another announcement has just been made about a brand new product that’s being added to the Disney Lorcana line-up. It’s called the Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway- and while it’s not available for pre-order yet, we do have some interesting information about it.

Here’s everything we know about the Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway set so far – including the set contents and release date – to help you decide whether to order it or not. 

The Set Will Be Coming Out In August

Before we dive into the contents of the Gateway set, it’s important to note that it will be coming out in most locations towards the later half of 2024. More specifically, fans can expect to see it on the 9th of August.

This means that August should be a pretty big month for Lorcana fans.

If you missed it, the fifth Lorcana set should be coming out on the same day. 9th of August is set to be the release date for Set 5 on a local store level, with larger retailers and stores getting the set and relevant items on the 23rd of August.

Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway Is Ideal For New Players

The Gateway set is clearly targeted at new players who have never played a trading card game before, let alone Disney Lorcana. While we don’t have access to a full card list yet, we do have access to a list of what’s included with the set.

Inside the Disney Lorcana Gateway set, fans will find:

• A player’s guide
• A playmat/board designed for two players
• Two 30-card premade decks
• Additional cards for deck customization

The set will be retailing for £19.70 GBP/$24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD when it comes out. We don’t know yet if there will be a standard pre-order window for this set but based on how popular Lorcana has been in recent months (and how quickly it sells out) it’s very likely, so make sure to keep an eye on your favorite hobby store websites.

Based on the contents of the set, the price, and the targeted approach, we’d say that it definitely is worth it. While we don’t know which cards will be included yet, the value that players will get from two decks and extra cards is immense – and the additions of a player’s guide and play board add to it even more.
