If you’re running a trading card game, one of the most important things that you can do is give your players a reason to meet up and get involved with in-person events. Competitive gauntlets, tournaments, and shows are all brilliant options to add extra life to a TCG community scene.
Pokémon has always been a great example of this. There’s always a new event or opportunity to check out, whether it’s rare promo cards, illustration contests, or tournament matches.
The 2024 Pokémon Championship Series Promo Card just got announced. Here’s everything that you need to know about it, including how to get it for your collection and how to check which events are offering the card.
Only Some Stores Are Offering the Card
The 2024 Pokémon Championship Series promotional card features Pikachu and Charizard with the iconic Play! Pokémon logo in the corner.
It’s being given out as a reward for taking part in official Play! Pokémon events (this is a program from The Pokémon Company which aims to bring the community together) during November this year. These might be casual tournaments or competitive cups- there’s something for players of every skill level.
It’s important to note that not every Pokémon store has the promo card up for grabs. You can use the event locator tool on the official Pokémon site to check out which card stores near you are participating in the program. If you’re unsure, it’s best to just send them an email or visit them in person to check.
Another essential thing to be aware of is that the distribution method for the card is down to the individual shop. Make sure to double check this before taking part in an event. The cards are limited and will likely be available on a first come, first served basis, and some stores may require you to win while others might just hand them out to participants.
Other Items Are Up For Grabs
It’s not just the promo card that’s up for grabs here, either. Alongside the physical promotional card, there’s a Pokémon Trading Card Game Live code which can be used to unlock a digital version to play with online.
There are also some premium deck boxes and card sleeves available this November with the Play! Pokémon branding on them.
If you’ve never tried out a tournament or competitive event before, it’s absolutely worth having a go. If you’re usually a solo Pokémon fan, it can be a great way to meet other fans to play with, and it can be fun to tackle these events with a group of friends, too. Plus, these promotional cards and accessories can be valuable items for collectors to have in their collection.
If one of the Sleeve No Card Behind writers can get to a Play! Pokémon event next month, we’ll be sure to do a card reveal on our official Instagram page if possible.
