Yu-Gi-Oh! had an incredible year this year, with a plethora of gorgeous sets, cards, and additional releases to keep fans busy. The artwork seen in 2023 has been phenomenal and the potential for creative decks has been huge.
It’s already looking like 2024 will be a busy one for Yu-Gi-Oh! players and collectors, too, as the first Official Card Game Core Booster Set has just recently been announced. The set is called Infinite Forbidden, and while the information we have available right now is somewhat limited, it already looks like a hell of a cool set.
Here’s what we know about Yu-Gi-Oh! Infinite Forbidden right now, including when fans can expect to see it being officially released next year and what they can expect from the product release itself, too.
It Comes Out In Late April Next Year
Infinite Forbidden is set to be the fifth Core Booster Set of Series 12 in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game, coming just after the Legacy of Destruction release, and fans won’t have too long to wait if they’re looking to get their hands on new cards.
Infinite Forbidden will come out on the 27th of April 2024 initially.
Based on what we know about the typical Yu-Gi-Oh! release schedule, it’s likely that we’ll start to see previews for this Core Booster Set in the later half of February next year. Additionally, pre-orders should start to open up around that time, if not in March.
Make sure to keep an eye on your favorite card stores and online websites around that time to snag a pre-order if you’re keen on securing your cards.
The Theming Should Be Incredibly Exciting
We don’t have much information to go on yet when it comes to Infinite Forbidden, but what we do have is the name. The name has been causing a lot of speculation amongst fans and players, as it could possibly indicate some strikingly different set themes.
Some of the most common theories about what we might see based on fan forums and Subreddit answers include:
- ZEXAL or VRAINS being the cover, with a ZEXAL cover featuring something like Numeron Dragons and a VRAINS cover featuring something like Ignister support.
- Possible links to Exodia or Exodia-associated characters.
- More creative Number cards.
- Something to do with the Infernity Archetype.
These are all just speculative points from fans (and us!) of course, so take them with a pinch of salt while we’re waiting for the release. They are all exciting ideas, though, with the ZEXAL and VRAINS covers being the most likely based on past releases.
Something that we do know for definite based on the official announcement is that this set should offer great synergy with past releases. The official announcement noted that Infinite Forbidden will ‘power up existing themes’ while also including some new cards and unique themes as well.
This is wonderful news for both collectors and competitive players. It’s always intriguing to see how trading card game companies tie new releases back to existing ones, and historically, Yu-Gi-Oh! is usually quite good at doing this successfully.
Bonus Card Packs Will Be Available
Finally, it’s important to note that we don’t have an official product list available yet- but that we do know something interesting about the release.
In the first print run of the Infinite Forbidden set, fans will be able to snag a bonus pack in Booster Pack Boxes. This exciting reward is great for collectors and competitive players who are hoping to complete the full set as quickly as possible.
This release should follow the standard OCG format, meaning that Booster Packs will have 5 cards apiece and that Booster Pack Boxes will have 30 Booster Packs in them. There should be 125 cards in the Master Set, with Quarter Century Secret Rares included alongside all of the normal rarity categories.
Aside from this, it’s not clear if there will be any deviations from the usual OCG format. Our bet is that it should be a fairly normal release, based on the 2023 schedule and release style. Konami is sure to put out some creative releases and special products, but from what we’ve seen about Infinite Forbidden so far, the most unusual thing should be the card themes.
It’s looking like a great set for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans to pick up, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated with card reveals or additional announcements as soon as we know more.
