Super Mario Bros. Wonder Is Getting Exclusive Trading Cards

Mario Wonder TCG Cards and Game and Mushrooms Paper Background

It’s not often that we look at Super Mario Bros. on this site, but a recent announcement about the upcoming game Super Mario Bros. Wonder has piqued our interest.

Trading cards are a unique way to drum up hype around an upcoming launch, and a set of trading cards has just been announced for Mario Wonder. It looks intriguing, although it’s certainly more of a TCG for collectors and investors than it is for people who want a fun game to play with friends.

Here’s a brief summary of everything we know about the Super Mario Bros. Wonder  trading cards so far, including the card list, release date, and card rarity types.

The Cards Are Only Available At Walmart

Firstly, the Super Mario Bros. Wonder trading cards are an exclusive promotion that can only be obtained at Walmart.

It’s likely that they’ll end up being resold online in different locations but, for now, the only way to get your hands on these cards is to pre-order the game from Walmart. The game comes out on the 20th of October in most locations.

There Are 20 Different Cards To Collect

Unlike most of the releases we cover in advance on this site, the official card list for the Super Mario Bros. Wonder TCG has already been released.

The basic cards that you can get feature single character designs. They include:

  • Mario
  • Yoshis (Featuring 4 different Yoshis, including the classic Yoshi)
  • Toads (Featuring 2 different Toads)
  • Luigi
  • Peach
  • Daisy
  • Toadette
  • Nabbit
  • Prince Florian
  • Super Star
  • Poplin
  • Trottin’ Piranha Plants
  • Talking Flower
  • Bulrush
  • Hoppo

The four holofoil cards that you can get your hands on are:

  • Wonder Bowser Jr.
  • Castle Bowser
  • Wubba Mario
  • Goomba (featuring 4 Goombas wearing different hats)

As you can see, the cards feature specific characters from the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game alongside standard characters. The artwork is incredibly bright and vibrant, and from what we’ve seen so far, they look to be very high quality as well.

There’s one other notable card to look at, too.

There Are Only 1000 Elephant Mario Cards

There’s also one incredibly limited edition holofoil card, showing Elephant Mario. There are only a thousand of these cards in existence and it’s likely that they’ll end up getting resold for more money online at some point.

All in all, if you’re a Mario fan and you live in a region where Walmart exists, this is absolutely worth your time. These cards look lovely and it’s possible that they could hold some value down the line, so if you’re planning to buy Super Mario Bros. Wonder, then pick up the cards as well.

It’s unclear whether there will ever be any future releases to go along with these cards as there seems to be no gameplay element of note, but they’re a wonderful collector’s item.

You can pre-order the game and card pack together from Walmart. Make sure that the page you’re pre-ordering from specifies that it includes the cards, as it is possible to pre-order the game and not get the trading cards.
