New TCG Star Wars: Unlimited First Look

Star Wars TCG Card Against Celestial Banner

Star Wars trading card games haven’t always been the most successful in the past (looking at you, Star Wars: Destiny) but there’s a new product on the horizon that fans are sure to get a kick out of.

A new TCG called Star Wars: Unlimited has been announced by Fantasy Flight Games and it looks incredible. It’s been in development for 3 years so far, and it seems to have the perfect mix of gameplay elements to suit Star Wars fans and competitive TCG players who are on the lookout for something new.

Here’s a summary of what we know so far about Star Wars: Unlimited.

There’s No Official Star Wars: Unlimited Release Date Yet

First things first, there hasn’t been an official release date announced yet for this trading card game, much to the disappointment of eager fans.

All we know currently is that the game will be coming out in 2024. The official press release mentioned that fans should keep an eye on Fantasy Flight Games by checking out their official social media pages, so following their official Twitter is a good place to start.

Star Wars Unlimited Card Reveal Twitter

They do card reveals pretty regularly, which is a lot of fun to see.

The First Set Is Called Sparks of Rebellion

The first Star Wars: Unlimited set that we’ll see in 2024 will be called Sparks of Rebellion. Other than card reveals online, there isn’t an official card list yet but the first set still seems incredibly exciting so far.

One of the most notable things about this initial launch is that it will contain over 200 cards. For a first launch, this is impressive, and it outshines launches like Disney Lorcana’s First Chapter in terms of sheer quantity.

It’s not a surprise that there are so many cards on the way, though. In all of the official press releases and digital content, the Unlimited team is putting a real emphasis on how unlimited the game will be. It’s a strategic game without any flashy gimmicks or add-ons, and the gameplay loop will focus on players customizing their battle strategy.

The Gameplay Revolves Around Bases

Speaking of gameplay loops and strategy, the Star Wars: Unlimited gameplay focuses on destroying your opponent’s base before they can destroy yours.

It’s an approachable turn-based game where each player gets to make an action per turn. An action might be using an ability or playing a card, for example, and there are lots of different card types to choose from as well.

Currently, the card types that we know of include leaders, bases, and units, with sub-categories like space and ground.

It’ll be interesting to see how this gameplay style translates to a competitive space. With the information right now, the game looks incredibly fun and the art style is wonderful as well. There’s sure to be some value in this game for investors and collectors who enjoy making money with their items, and there’s a lot to love for casual fans and competitive players, too.
