The Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest Is Coming Up Soon
There are a lot of incredible artists in the Pokémon community – like this digital artist and this creator for example – and there’s an event coming up that they’re sure to be excited about.
The annual Pokémon TCG illustration contest has just had its start date announced, and with that comes a whole heap of information for TCG fans and budding artists to be aware of. Here’s a quick summary of what you need to know.
The Competition Starts In October
The competition officially kicks off on October 12th and it ends on January 31st next year. The start time on the 12th is 6am PDT and the closing time on the 31st is 5:59am PST.
One of the best things about this year’s competition is that it’s open to a wide variety of locations. It’s open to artists from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
There Are Several Categories
The theme for the competition is ‘magical Pokémon moments’ meaning that artists must illustrate a card design based off of specific Pokémon experiencing something whimsical and magical or cool and dynamic. The Pokémon that you can draw are:
- Charizard
- Pikachu
- Eevee
- Feraligatr
- Flygon
- Absol
- Bidoof
- Melmetal
- Toxtricity (Amped Form)
- Koraidon
The main prizes that you can expect to see in this competition are well worth the effort. The winning categories and prizes are:
- Grand Prize Winner. $5,000 cash prize. This winner will have their card design turned into a real Pokémon card.
- Best Standard Card Illustration. $3,000 cash prize.
- Best ex Card Illustration. $3,000 cash prize
- Six First Place Runner Ups. $1,000 cash prize.
- 15 Judge’s Awards. $500 cash prize.
