"Few are lucky enough to see a God pack in person"
What are Pokémon God packs?
In the world of the Pokémon cards, a God pack is a booster pack that contains all holo hits. Every single card in the pack is a high-rarity card with artwork that spans the entire card.
God packs are extremely rare, so not many of us have ever seen one in person. Many have been documented online though, since so many people film their pack openings now. You can find many examples on TikTok, for example.
The name “God pack” is actually borrowed from the Magic: The Gathering from when the Journey Into Nyx expansion had a chance of a single booster pack containing all God cards. The set was deeply rooted in Greek mythology, so many of the big hits were based on Greek gods.
The first set to contain God packs was the Japanese set SM12, or “Tag Team GX All Stars. Not all sets have God packs, just special sets, sometimes referred to as holiday sets.
God packs are Japanese only
But there is a catch – God packs are Japanese only.
Yes, there is no such thing as an English God pack. With the introduction of the Scarlet & Violet era of the TCG, The Pokémon Company International decided to make a few changes with the purpose of tying the Japanese and Global cards together, unifying them as one.
This brought some speculation when members of the community posited the chance of English packs now having God packs.
However, this was never confirmed and we hadn’t seen any, until now.
We get Demigod packs instead
With the release of Pokémon 151, a special expansion that features Gen I Pokémon, we’ve seen very special packs popping up on social media.
These packs contain multiple Illustration/Special Illustration Rares. A huge draw to this new set is the Gen I starter evolution line. Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle all get their own evolution lines in beautiful full artwork.
There is a chance to pull a whole evolution line in one pack.
For example, people are finding the Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur Illustration Rares all in one pack! But you will still get non-holo cards too, since these aren’t full-on God packs.
Members of the community have dubbed these “Demigod” packs since they aren’t quite the same as God packs.
How rare are God packs and Demigod packs?
Finding either of these booster packs is extremely rare. It is likely that the actual odds of getting one change based on which expansion it’s in.
The Pokémon Company never discloses the exact odds of pulling certain rarities, and in this case, they’ve said nothing about God or Demigod packs. To obtain accurate numbers we would have to pull from a massive sample size, which isn’t easy.
Some members of the community report 1/250 chances while others say 1/600.
Short answer: No one knows just how rare God packs are.
How much are god packs worth?
If you open a God pack, its worth is equal to that of the card inside, obviously. Having pulled the card from a God pack makes no difference to the buyer(s).
However, selling a sealed God pack is a different story.
Since God packs contain only holo cards, they are much heavier than regular booster packs. Because of this, weighing a pack can determine whether or not it is in fact a God pack.
Depending on the expansion it belongs to, a God pack may be worth opening rather than selling sealed. Also, prices vary greatly depending on which set the pack is from.
Long story short, a sealed God pack is worth whatever people will pay for it on eBay.
