MTG Hydra Heads Neon Card Previews Cover

There’s always something to look forward to as a Magic the Gathering fan, no matter if you’re an avid collector, an investor, or a competitive tournament player. It’s a vivid franchise, with heaps of beautiful cards to collect and play with.

One of the most exciting upcoming Secret Lair sets to look forward to is the WPN exclusive Calling All Hydra Heads. This electrifying set has beautiful artwork, created by the artist CatDirty, and it’s a must-have for collectors who enjoy dramatic, eye-popping designs.

Here’s everything you need to know about Calling All Hydra Heads, including the official release date and product list.

The Set Drops This December

Firstly, it’s important to note that this is a WPN (Wizards Play Network) exclusive, meaning that the cards might not be available at your usual Magic the Gathering store. It’s best to get in contact with your favorite supplier ahead of time to make sure that you can definitely get the cards if you’re planning to pick them up in person.

The release date for most locations is the 8th of December this year. They’re coming just in time for the holiday season, making them a sweet present idea for any Magic fans in your life who could do with a few more cards.

Speaking of locations, one important thing pointed out in the official WPN article about this set is that there have been some supply issues for stores in Latin America and Asia-Pacific areas, excluding Japanese stores. Again, make sure to double-check with your chosen store before setting out to get cards if you’re in one of these locations to avoid any disappointment.

There Are Five Unique Cards

Calling All Hydra Heads is a small but mighty Secret Lair drop, containing 5 interesting cards and a themed coin, too.

The card list is as follows:

  • Gargos, Vicious Watcher
  • Hydroid Krasis
  • Primordial Hydra
  • Unbound Flourishing
  • Zaxara, The Exemplary

The coin included in this set is themed around Hydras, too, making it all feel very cohesive and carefully thought out.

Something that dedicated Magic fans may notice when picking up this set is that the packaging is new. The Calling All Hydra Heads set will be presented in a neat Little Black Box, making it easy to keep the cards safe and looking pristine on shelves or in storage.

It’s clear that the team behind the set is curious to know what people think about the Little Black Box packaging design, as they’ve noted in the previously linked article that a post-launch survey will be sent out for fans to provide feedback with. Make sure to take part in this if it gets sent to you if possible, as it’s always great as a creator to get community feedback.
