MTG Universes Beyond Fallout Cards Are Available for Preorder

Out of all the trading card games that exist today, Magic the Gathering is one of the most creative and inspired when it comes to taking inspiration from other franchises. Their Universes Beyond series is a fantastic example of this.

While 2023 has been a packed year for MTG fans already, there’s already plenty to look forward to next year as a Magic fan. One of these launches is the Fallout Universes Beyond set, featuring iconic characters from the legendary post-apocalyptic game.

Here’s everything you need to know about the set, including the release date and the sorts of products that you can expect to see. 

What Are Universes Beyond Cards?

If you’re unfamiliar with Universes Beyond, it’s a unique series in the Magic the Gathering world that focuses on highlighting characters and worlds from different franchises. 

Universes Beyond cards have slightly different branding to regular Magic cards, with a different border color and a triangular holofoil stamp. It’s important to note that they aren’t usually legal for standard tournaments but can almost always be played with in eternal formats. 

They’re great to pick up as a collector, especially if you’re a Magic fan who enjoys another franchise or game like Fallout. 

What Does the Fallout Set Look Like?

There’s a lot to be excited about here as a Fallout fan. The full product list looks like this:

• Collector Booster Packs. These booster packs contain 15 cards and, from what we’ve seen on the official site and listings, they seem to have pretty good pull rates. There’s the chance to pull some incredible alternate art cards, along with plenty of gorgeous foil cards and borderless designs. 

• Collector Booster Display Boxes. If you’re planning to buy lots of booster packs, this set of 12 booster packs is a good investment. 

• 4 Commander Decks. Commander Decks are unique decks with 100 cards and a  specific theme. Each deck has a specific amount of reprints and brand new cards. The decks that you can expect to see in this launch are:

• • Scrappy Survivors. Featuring the adorable Dogmeat on the front of the box, this deck has 38 brand new Magic the Gathering cards.

• • Mutant Menace. This deck shows off The Wise Mothman and it features a whopping 41 brand new MTG cards. 

• • Hail Caesar! With the official copy saying that this deck will help you ‘lead your army to a ruthless military victory’, this is an interesting pick. It features 37 brand new MTG cards.

• • Science! This deck has a specifically scientific and technological theme to it. It shows off 38 new and original Magic cards. 

• Commander Deck Bundle. This is a must-have for dedicated collectors. It includes all of the Commander Decks shown off above, along with a Collector Booster Sample Pack. This contains 2 interesting alt-frame cards and has a chance for a Rare or even a Mythic Rare card to be inside. 

One of the best things about Universes Beyond sets is that they’re a great way for people to get into collecting Magic cards. The Commander Decks can be a solid way to build up a collection, and the booster packs can help people to get excited about rarer pulls.

It’ll be interesting to see which kinds of Universes Beyond sets come out in the later parts of 2024. There has been such a wide variety of releases in the past – covering everything from Fortnite and Final Fantasy, to The Walking Dead and The Princess Bride – that it’s hard to know where they’ll take the series next.

When Do MTG Fallout Cards Release?

Speaking of 2024, fans can expect to see the Fallout set releasing on March 8th 2024 in most locations. It’s been a long time coming (with the initial announcement for this Universes Beyond set taking place back in August) so it’s a good idea to pre-order if you don’t want to miss out.

The official Magic the Gathering site has pre-orders open already for all the product types listed above. Most online trading card game retailers and hobby shops will have pre-orders open now too, so check out your favorite store if there’s a particular shop you want to support.
