We put out an article recently talking about how exciting the upcoming Disney TCG Lorcana looks – and right now, it seems like the majority of the card collecting scene would agree with us.

Lorcana cards don’t come out for another week in the vast majority of locations, and they’re already selling for huge amounts online. They were recently shown off at a convention and met with an incredibly positive response from fans.

To keep you updated on everything that’s important to know about the Lorcana game before it launches, here’s a summary of how it’s performing right now. We’ll look at where the lore and card reveals are at currently, the best places to pre-order card packs, and how the TCG community is responding to the game so far.

Lorcana Trading Cards Could Be Valuable Collector’s Items

Ever since the pre-release of the Lorcana cards at Gen Con 2023, there have been plenty of cards finding their way onto the online market and selling for large amounts of money already.

There was a limit on how many cards could be purchased at the event and they sold immensely well, with the official Disney Lorcana Twitter account acknowledging issues with over-crowded queues and thanking fans for being so excited while waiting to get their hands on their booster packs and collector’s items.

There were even rare pins being given out by Disney Lorcana staff members to lucky fans, which are sure to make their way online at some point too.

Lorcana cards are selling for a good chunk of money right now, with the general cards going for a few hundred dollars apiece in most cases. One of the most interesting things that came out of the Gen Con 2023 pre-launch experience was the release of the previously unknown card rarity called Enchanted. Enchanted cards are selling for thousands of dollars right now.

While some of these prices will likely go down in the coming weeks as Lorcana launches officially, this clear excitement from the community is a great indicator that these cards could be a wonderful collector’s item for people looking to expand their hoard and find a new trading card game to invest their time and money into.

Some Stores Are Already Allowing Pre-Orders

If you’re hoping to pre-order Lorcana cards and get ahead of the curve, you’ll be pleased to know that some retailers have their pre-order options up and available already.

These will vary depending on your region, and as mentioned in our previous Lorcana article, local card stores will be getting a priority release date. The August 18th release date is mainly for local game stores and hobby shops, and bigger retailers will start selling Lorcana cards on September 1st instead.

Despite the staggered release dates, most retailers have their pre-order pages up and available already. Well-known retailers like BestBuy, GameStop, and 401 Games already have pre-order pages online, and more are sure to follow as we get closer to the release date.

Make sure to check when your chosen retailer is shipping so that you’re not disappointed.

Some Lore Announcements Have Been Made

Some of the Lorcana lore has made its way out into the world already via the official Disney Lorcana YouTube channel. A trailer came out on the 9th of August called The Story Begins and it’s absolutely worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet.

While the trailer is short and sweet, it shows off the vibe and aesthetic that Lorcana is going for. Trading card games often have wonderful stories behind them (although this isn’t always the case) and fans are expecting a lot from Disney with this TCG. It’ll be intriguing to see where the story goes in winter when the second Lorcana launch takes place.

One of the most interesting things that can be gleaned from the trailer is that Lorcana isn’t exclusively focusing on Disney characters. In fact, the game will be launching with three types of characters. These character types are:

  • Dreamborn. Reinterpretations of classic characters with new, interesting aesthetics.
  • Floodborn. Not much is currently known about this character type at the time of writing this article, but they have a unique gameplay mechanic called the Shift mechanic. This mechanic means they can be played on top of another card with the same character on it for less resources and without any turn restrictions.
  • Storyborn. Classic Disney characters in a recognizable, old-school style.

It’ll be wonderful to see where the game goes with these character archetypes and how they all interact with one another during a match.
