If you’re a fan of the UniVersus collectible card game, you may know about the producers, Jasco Games. This CCG has a horde of dedicated fans, coming from multiple fandoms and corners of the collectible card community. There’s recently been an incredibly exciting announcement relating to the Jasco Games team.
Jasco Games has rebranded completely as of this week, now going by the name UVS Games. They’ve got a brand new logo and site, and the brand itself feels much more modern, fresh, and aligned with the UniVersus game.
It’s clear that a lot of love went into this rebranding process, as the new site looks wonderful and even the logo has a great intention behind it. The official announcement on the UVS Games website says that the V in the middle of the logo is meant to look like ‘the shape of a card as you lift it off of the table’.
It’s not just a new brand that was announced with this release, though. UVS Games has introduced a new variety of IPs and card styles to the UniVersus game that are sure to shake things up.
Here’s everything you need to know about the rebrand and the new additions to UniVersus.
What is UniVersus?
If you’re unfamiliar with UniVersus or haven’t played for a while, here’s a quick refresher.
UniVersus is a collectible card game that features characters from a whole host of different franchises and other brands. It was originally known as Universal Fighting System, coming out in 2006, and has since developed a huge following of loyal fans.
The purpose of UniVersus is for fans to be able to battle with their favorite characters from their favorite franchises. These franchises range from anime and manga franchises, to other card games and even video games. Popular additions include Mortal Kombat, Cowboy Bebop, Mega Man, and Tekken.
This game is constantly updated and refreshed with new releases coming out fairly consistently each year, so it makes sense to see a brand update.
What Has UVS Games Changed?
The main thing that the UVS Games update has changed is, of course, the name and aesthetic elements of the brand. It’s much sleeker and much more modern now, with a site update that matches the overall feel of the UVS Games branding.
There’s also been an update to the card back, too, in order to make the cards look even better and fit the brand changes. The cards already looked fantastic but the new card backs are much clearer and add a deeper level of quality to the player experience.
Aside from the aesthetic changes, the only other major thing that has been changed about UVS Games is that there have been new additions made to the UniVersus card line-up. There’s been an entirely new product added to the UVS store to make space for the vast roster of different franchises and characters that are being added consistently.
Something that’s really great to note about all these changes is that current UniVersus cards and game systems are still backwards compatible with old Universal Fighting System products. This means that long-term players won’t miss out on anything or need to drastically change their collection in order to keep up with current releases.
It’s also relatively accessible for new players to get involved with too, which is incredible. The store currently has Starter Decks available for purchase that will fit alongside the newer releases, meaning new collectors can hit the ground running.
Which New Additions Have Been Made to UniVersus?
There have been so many new characters, franchises, and card styles added to the Universus world that UVS Games decided to bring in a new type of product called the Challenger Series.
In the Challenger Series packs, fans can expect to find:
- Two character cards
- A Collector’s Booster Pack with six alternative art foil premium cards
- A premade deck to use in tournaments
It’s worth noting that the premade tournament decks in any Challenger Series releases will be entirely unique and feature both designs and mechanics that cannot be found in any other standard UniVersus releases. They’re worth picking up.
The two Challenger Series releases that fans can expect to see first feature Cowboy Bebop and Trigun Stampede. Cowboy Bebop has been seen in UniVersus releases before but Trigun Stampede is one of the latest IPs to join the roster.
Another upcoming UniVersus release to be aware of is the My Hero Academia set called My Hero Academia: Jet Burn. If you’re a MHA fan, you’ll be delighted to know that the character Hawks is featured heavily in this set.
Additionally, there will be a new card type to collect in this My Hero Academia set. Alternate art cards will be heavily featured in this release, showing off Jet Burn characters and other characters that have been seen in previous MHA releases.
If you’ve never considered getting into the UniVersus CCG, now is the perfect time to start. UVS Games is looking better than ever before and the upcoming releases on their website look absolutely stellar so far.
