Everyone has a favorite type, and with that comes favorite Pocket Monsters. If you’re an Electric-type fan, you probably have a soft spot for Pikachu or Zapdos. This post covers the top 8 most expensive Electric-type cards available, excluding any one-of-a-kind, error, or tournament cards.
8. Pikachu BW Promo – $550
Released in 2013 as part of the 15th Anniversary, we got this really neat Pikachu card.
Pikachu stands out against a colorless background, and with its computer-generated design, it really stands out. Whether you think this card is ugly or not, it’s a really cool piece, and it’s beginning to get very expensive!
7. Pretend Team Skull Pikachu- $900
Released in 2016 in Japan, we have the pretend Team Skull Pikachu.
This is actually one of the Poncho-wearing Pikachu cards that are further down on this list, but we feel that it’s often forgotten and underrated, so here it is as its own entry.
6. Master Battle Set Pikachu – $1,000
Japan gets the best Pikachu cards, why is that?
Released as part of the Master Battle Set in 2019, we have this amazing Pikachu promo. It’s hard to tell from the image here, but the jagged yellow thunderbolts have their own holo pattern that makes them stand out, seemingly jumping off of the card.
5. Pikachu Star – $1,000
Of course, each of these lists features a Star card!
From Holon Phantoms comes one of the most sought-after Star cards to date, and it’s obviously Pikachu. These cards are amazing as they feature shiny Pokémon that burst out of the artwork frame.
This card also made the list of our Top 15 Pikachu Cards to Invest In!
4. Poncho Wearing Pikachu- $1, 500
It’s not the skin of a Rayquaza, it’s just a poncho!
Pictured above is the Poncho-wearing Pikachu from the Rayquaza Poncho-wearing Pikachu Special box, released in 2016, but there are a few more. Included in this box is also a Pikachu wearing a shiny Rayquaza poncho.
In addition to those, there is also a Charizard, Shiny Charizard, Magikarp, and Gyarados poncho promo.
3. Luigi Pikachu- $1500
Released in October 2016, the Mario and Luigi Pikachu Special Box really was special.
These cross-over cards predated the huge Pokémon TCG boom of 2020 by just a few years. Those of us who got one are now sitting on a goldmine, but those of us who missed out may never obtain the cards now.
2. Mario Pikachu- $1,750
You knew it was coming- Mario Pikachu.
That’s right, you got both brothers in one package. These cards are stupidly expensive now but the Mario edges out Luigi by a fair bit. However, most will opt to buy both at once if they didn’t get their hands on the actual box.
A PSA 10 is going to cost you around $5,500+.
1. Pikachu XY Promo – $6,500
Here it is, the most expensive Electric-type Pokémon card.
This card was awarded to participants of the 20th Anniversary Festa, in Japan. In addition to amazing unique artwork, the card also features the 20th Anniversary Festa logo.
This card is simply amazing and quite desirable as it features each of the generation one starter Pokémon. You can find raw copies in near-mint condition for around $6,000, but a PSA 10 is going to cost $15,000+.
Final Thoughts
If you’re like me then you feel that Electric-type cards are underrated. Truthfully, the 8 most expensive Electric-type Pokémon cards aren’t really that bad, compared to fire-types for example.
Wait a minute, were all 8 Pikachu? Yes, yes they were.
